LOP is a census-designated, private gated community governed by the Lake of the Pines Association (LOPA), a homeowner-elected association that oversees, sets, and enforces rules for the community. As a non-profit mutual benefit corporation under California law, LOP is more than just a place to live, it is a place where community values and natural beauty coalesce.
Positioned between Auburn and Grass Valley in Nevada County, California, LOP was originally developed in 1967 as a recreational community for those seeking an escape from city life. Today more than 4,000 people in just over 2,000 homes call LOP their home.
At the heart of our community rests a 232-acre, human-constructed lake. With five miles of shoreline, our lake is surrounded by homes, parks, recreation courts, and a 19-hole golf course, fostering a truly active lifestyle for members and their guests. Additionally, LOP offers multiple tennis, pickleball, and bocce courts, a basketball and sand volleyball court, a junior Olympic-size pool, a 148-boat marina, seven lake-side parks, and two restaurants with full-service bars – our Sports Lounge and lakefront Clubhouse, both of which are available during regular business hours and to host events, parties, and celebrations.
Our community is ideal for young professionals and families who want a small community vibe. Just outside of our gates Cottage Hill Elementary School, Magnolia Intermediate School, and Bear River High School await students and their families. Or, if you prefer, there are charter and private school programs available locally.
For those seeking a place to immerse themselves in retirement, Lake of the Pines is the perfect location. With the abundance of activities, social clubs, and recreation, we promise that you will never be bored.
While it’s easy to assume we are off the beaten path, we are not rural.
