Main Lake

The heart of our community is a 232-acre human-constructed lake, which rests at an elevation of 1,507 feet. First filled in 1967, Main Lake holds roughly 4,200 acre-feet of water, which is primarily fed by snow melt from the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Tahoe National Forest region. At its deepest, the Main Lake reaches approximately 55 feet.

Main Lake is outlined by 260 private homes and seven community parks. A boat ramp is available at Park 4, where members without a boat slip can launch for daily use. Members and their guests can also participate in an array of recreational, aesthetic, and educational activities, including swimming, fishing, water-skiing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, sailboarding, cruising, and pontoon boating.

Our lake is more than a focal point, but it is home to a plethora of native species. Large and small mouth bass are just the beginning. Trout, red ear, bluegill sunfish, black crappie, and catfish all live within the Main Lake’s waters. Members can also spot river otters, waterfowl, turtles, muskrats, snakes, egrets, heron, osprey, and eagles in, around, and above the lake.

Fun Fact: our Main Lake is known as one of California’s best bass fishing lakes!

Maintaining the natural environment through sustainable practices is a top priority of LOPA and the community. For more information (contact or click here).

The Main Lake is available year-round for our members and their guests to enjoy.

Ponds

Lake of the Pines has three ponds that add to the beautiful aesthetic of our community.

Hazel Pond is the longest standing and sometimes referred to as Hazel Lake. Built by local ranchers in the 1950s as a cattle watering hole, today it is situated at Park 1 near the Lakeshore N and Hazel Way intersection. This 4-acre pond is on the north end of the Main Lake, separated by a levee, and rests approximately 10 feet higher in elevation than the Main Lake. Hazel Pond is great for fishing and supports non-motorized water amenities.

Huck Finn Pond is 3-acres and connected to a large, fenced dog-friendly park. It is located near the front gate at the end of Sycamore Court. This 3-acre pond is great for water dogs, who can cool off on a sweltering day within its waters.

Front Entrance Pond, as suggested by its name, is found at the front gate entrance along Magnolia Road. It receives its water from the outflow of the Huck Finn Pond. Members, guests, and passer-byes enjoy seeing the small pond, its water feature, and the turtles, ducks, and geese that are always there to greet them. It is not uncommon to see people casting their fishing lines, rain or shine.

Parks

Lake of the Pines has six lakeside parks for our members and their guests to enjoy. Each one offers a sandy beach and swimming area (no lifeguards on duty), and most have picnic tables and restrooms. LOP also has two parks that are pond-side. All the parks are maintained by LOPA via the Public Works Department.

Main Beach:

Located adjacent to the Clubhouse and pool, here you will find a newly renovated playground where kids can play to their heart’s content, as well as LOP’s largest sandy beach and swimming area.

Park 1: Hazel Park

Hazel Pond, Pickleball Courts, Basketball Courts, and a Sand Volleyball Court. Picnic tables and a grass field make it a fantastic spot to hang out, have a party, or fish. Note that while the pond is a wonderful place to cast a line and hope for fish, there is no lake access, nor beach or swimming area.

Park 2: Shadow Cove Park

Situated near the corner of Lakeshore N and Shadow Dr., you will find tables with shade covers (seasonal), a beach with swimming area, and 2 lanes for playing horseshoes.

Park 3: Sandy Point Park

This park, located on Lakeshore North, is perfect for parties, picnics, and sunsets. There is a playground for kids, picnic tables, and a sandy beach with a swimming area.

Park 4: South Shore Park

Located on Lakeshore South near the intersection with Torrey Pines, this park is also known as the boat launch park. Here you will find our member day-use boat launch, a lakefront playground, picnic tables, built-in barbecues, as well as docks to launch personal water amenities, such as paddle boards.

Park 5: Green Valley Park

Situated on Lakeshore S at its intersection with Green Valley Rd. This lakeside park amenities include a sandy beach, swimming area, picnic tables, and restrooms.

Park 6: Coming Soon

Currently undeveloped, this park has been approved and is in the plan for future development.

Park 7: Sun Terrace Park

Located on Lakeshore N at its intersection with Sun Terrace Ct, here you will find a sandy beach and swimming area, picnic tables, and beautiful views of the Marina.

Dog Park:

The Huck Finn Pond doubles as our community dog park. It is a great outdoor space where you and your four-legged friends can run, jump, swim, chase, and mingle. This park is fenced, meaning it’s one of the only places within the community where your dog can roam sans leash.
